FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS FOR SESSIONS

What is on location, natural light photography?

It's a custom photography experience, different from the process and photos through major chains. You select the location and there are no "posed" shots. Children and families are free to explore, relax, and have fun while their photos are taken. Many clients tell me I "captured their child's personality" and I think that's because I let children be themselves! I use only natural light because it's more flattering and produces much more "natural" results. Unlike photo chains, photos are also retouched to remove blemishes or imperfections. Best of all no waiting in long lines!

There are lots of "photographers" out there. What sets you apart?

Anyone can pick up a "good camera" and take pictures. What sets me apart is my experience in BOTH taking photos and processing them. Photography is an art and each photo a work of art. Compare portfolios when choosing a photographer! Are their images dark or out of focus? Are skin tones correct (should look bright and clean with no color casts)?

When should I book my session?

Please contact me once you have a date for a session. For family holiday photos, I suggest September to mid-November for photos. That is also my busiest time of year so the farther in advance you book, the better I can accommodate you.

What is the best time to have maternity photos?

Between 32-35 weeks is ideal.

What is the best time for newborn photos?

The best time for newborn photos is 14 days or younger. Babies are most cooperative and sleepy during the first days the of life, for this reason I ONLY accept newborns under 2 weeks. Newborn sessions typically take at least 2 hours and are done at your home, I come to you!

Where are sessions located?

Sessions take place at local parks, gardens or outdoor locations. I specialize in natural-light photography, so any area with good light and foliage works. Get creative!

What about studio photography?

I offer studio photography for newborns and first birthday sessions ONLY.

What time are sessions?

Sessions take place early evening and usually take about an hour. Newborn sessions are scheduled for the morning. Please arrive to your session promptly as good photos are dependent on available light. Weekends work best!

What should we wear?

Newborn: nude is best, tiny hats/headbands, please no outfits! They look bulky on babies and don't photograph well.

Maternity: jeans, basic tank top, cute dress, dressy top or a stunning maternity gown by Roses and Ruffles  or TAOPAN for a unique maternity look. Don't be afraid to wear clothing that is not maternity! Ultrasound photos, small baby keepsakes and baby shoes make good props.

Families/Children: jeans, dresses, tutus, avoid all white or black, look for coordinating colors, mix it up with accessories like scarves, fun shoes, statement jewelry, coats and hats. Pick a clothing style (casual, dressy casual or formal) and stick to it for the whole group. If you would like to bring a change of clothes, you are welcome to!

Engagement: one casual and one formal look, and be sure to bring the ring!

With all sessions, I recommend avoiding wearing sneakers. Sandals, dress shoes, heels and even flip flops are a better option.
